As you may have heard, we wrote a book in 9 days. Yes, 65k words in 9 days. Mental, I know.

What now?

Riding the high of writing Blurred Borders, which basically wrote itself, we decided to tackle a new project.

“A fun one,” I said.

Blurred Borders was deep. Dark. Hard to write at times because of the trauma our characters went through. Nina, who is always down to write, agreed. “Let’s make them quirky and funny.” So we jumped in. High off finishing one book and completely burnt out without realising it. What followed were days of throwing ideas, plots, character development and dialogue at each other… followed by a whole lot of nothing. The story didn’t want to be written. The characters wouldn’t come to life. The dialogue stalled. We had no direction, even with a nearly complete beat sheet. So what do you do when that happens? Do you give up? The honest answer… yes. Sometimes the time just isn’t right. No matter how hard you push, nothing comes of it. I’ll be honest, I was the problem here. Exhaustion got the better of me, and I had to admit defeat and park the story until we’re ready to try again. We haven’t given up. We’ve just accepted that right now, we don’t have what this story needs. Forcing it would only make it weaker, and we want stories that grip you until the last page. Or at least entertain you enough to keep reading. Letting go means trusting that when we come back, we’ll have fresh ideas and the energy to do it properly. Take care of yourself. Know when to let go of things that don’t fit where you are right now. Love, Savi & Nina
